Green Beans are famous by many names around the world like string beans, French beans, snap beans, snaps, and more. In France, they are called haricot vert. These are unripe yet various cultivars of “Phaseolus vulgaris”. Likewise immature pods of runner beans, yardlong beans, and hyacinth beans are also used similarly. These have been cultivated in Peru and Mexico for ages or so as it is believed that they are originated in Central and South America. According to an estimate, China produces 80% of the world’s production of this particular vegetable.
Green beans are the warm-season vegetable crop. And they grow the best in well-drained soil and plenty of sunlight. In the spring, these are planted after ensuring that the possible danger of frost is no more. Interestingly, green beans are ready to pick when these are of the size of small pencils. However, it is to keep in mind that over-ripe beans are stringy and tough.
